A Semi-longitudinal Study on Body Fat Weight by Indirect Method with Reference to Body Height and Weight of Korean Youth in an Urban Area


Abstract
For the purpose of studying physical growth and body fat weight by semi-longitudinal research method, this study was carried out by measuring body height and body weight of 386 students (male: 165, female¢¥ 221) who are living in Su-Won City as Korean urban area. This study was conducted from October 1, 1993 to September 31, 1994.
The results are as follows :
A. Physical Growth
1. Body Height
Straight linear growth was shown between 7 and 15 years of age in male and between 7 and 13 years of age in female, and after that ages slow growth was shown. The age of cross over between two sexes was before 14.5 year in body height.
2. Body Weight
Straight linear growth was shown between 7 and 15 years of age in male and between 7 and 14 years of age in female, and after that ages slow growth was shown like that of body height. The age of cross over between two sexes was between 8.5 to 15.5 years.
B. Body Fat Weight by Physical Measurement
1. Body Surface Area, Body Volume and Body Density The averages of body surface area (m2), body volume (L) and body density (Kg/L) by indirect method using body height and weight was like Tables¢¥ 3, 4, and 5.
2. Body Fat Weight (%)
In male, body fat weight was between 9.03% and 15.01% and the record was the
same as Korean standard body fat weight (10-15%) In female, it was between 20.28% and 35.12% and the record was over than that of Korean standard body fat weight (20-25%) in whole ages. It means % of body fat in female was more than that in male.
